Narrative: “The flowers are blooming because the bipeds no longer snatch them away, they now have a future to look forward to, when the roses rise and everything begins again!” The Tank is the only oasis in the midst of all this destruction, being a source of sustenance in itself. All the things they made, none of them are safe now. And why are all these other wonderful creatures here you ask? Well, they are here to take what was already meant for them from the beginning. You see, these multiple visions we have for the future, the stress we give to human existence and experiences and neglect all the other ones just creates a greater divide between the whole world and us. So, representations should be as elusive as the projects they represent. Letting go of false ideas, focusing less on the exclusionary functions and definitions that we give to spaces we make, we should move forward to a world where we show the impact that the project actually has on this planet, not the fancy attractive visions that give illusions of hope and wellness, where there is none!

The exercise focused on representation and detailing, in order to improve the composition skills. It helped us to visualize various texts in a graphical format on an A3 sheet to be viewed as an encyclopedia spread. Alignment, text sizes, fonts, color schemes, margins and gutters were taken into consideration while designing the spread. Previous Next Sizzling Brownie

Narrative: The Indian naval ships are the principal manifestation of India’s maritime power, they stand as a symbol of bravery, valor and pride. However, after decades of service, during decommissioning, the ships are abandoned and the historic carrier is forgotten and sold as scrap instead of being preserved. The proposed 35 kilometer-long coastal road project along Mumbai’s western coast which aims to ‘connect people and places’ threatens the socio-economic and cultural identity of the Kolis , the original residents of Mumbai, as it would block their access to the sea and deplete the fish stock that they have been dependent on for decades. Our project aims at creating socially inclusive and environmentally resilient spaces considering the unique qualities, traditions, and needs of the Worli Koliwada to create a sense of equality, belonging and pride among residents, using parts of the Indian naval ships in a way the true identity of each ship as well as that of the Koli community is preserved. Just as the naval ships break through the attacks of the enemy to safeguard the coast, our design is empowering the Koli community by breaking through the coastal road overpowering the community. We ship the Koliwala over the coastal road!

Shruti Barve : : : : : : : : : : : The main objective behind this particular design was to have something which will have some sort of openness to it showing the expressive nature of the different types of users around it as well as the design should fundamentally cover all the basics regarding the surrounding interactions and also the shading and circulation, etc. There were a lot of varieties of grids to work with regarding the initial concept. Breaking down the narrative furthermore helped me to understand the relations of the grids with the developed narrative. Formal grids and multiform grids were the ones with which I decided to move ahead. The basic aspect to express my narrative was to have open access and seatings on most of the sides so that there's no crowded spots in the design and also to have a minimal but effective approach in terms of the design. The tree plantation and the overall landscaping was an important aspect to look at because of the existing college. The windows facing on the front side were to be noted because the overall plantation moved around it. Here the thought was to place trees which will work out as a canopy providing shade to the users. Yagnik Bathija : : : : : : : : : : : The design aimed to arouse a sense of familiarity and interactivity. The design process includes integration of operational words, SPLIT, RECORD, and SURPRISE, which modulates the form providing timelessness to the design process. The roof flows seamlessly into spaces transforming itself from a gable roof to a sloped roof and then turning into a butterfly roof over the dining and the palnaghar. The form splits, twists, and turns into the space, such that one will have a view of the central atrium. The zoning is based on the idea of splitting by segregating the functional spaces, as per the accessibility and utility. The Palana Ghar is placed on the first level in close proximity to staff to increase usability and reduce circulation. The words surprise and record adds up to the experiential value of the spaces. One can have a glimpse of the play area when using the walkway, thus creating a sense of curiosity as one perceives the space. Previous Next Balwadi - Creche

Jay Mali : : : : : : : : : : : Recently shifted from Istanbul to Goa, Rucha lives in a 1 BHK apartment with her husband Emir who is a cardiologist and her ten-year-old daughter Tansa. Catering to the various needs of the family, the design incorporates a modern- minimalist approach. The monochromatic color scheme gives off light and earthy vibes and the use of blues and greens in the form of textures and plants add a pop of color to the space. The use of different textures like brick cladding in the living room, reflective surfaces like mirrors and the wooden flooring and beadboard ceiling help break the monotony and accentuate certain features of the space. Further the beadboard ceiling in the living room adds a cosy and modern look. The design incorporates an open space layout with the kitchen counter and the bookcase acting as a separating element creating workspaces for tansa and Rucha. The design contains line furnishings, flushed cabinets and space saving minimalist furniture that are well-built and comfortable. The corner seating for reading, well designed balcony spaces with mesh walls for gardening, coffee table, use of Turkish rugs, foldable table for playing board games, a separate bookcase and wall display for showcasing antiques responds to the specific needs of the client. Additionally, the use of décor elements inspired from geometric patterns and the wall hanging planters add a touch of character to the space. A minimalist Expression

The COA Heritage Award aims to encourage interest and talent of students for understanding,Documenting of Heritage buildings. Narrative: An essential aspect that separates this structure from any other handicraft is the huge scale of the Uru. The documentation holistically explored the translation of this scale while associating it with an architectural building. The core objective behind this project resides in the principle that these ships don't follow a set of pre-hand working drawings which is a fundamental feature in any aspect of a real time architectural design Thereby, treating the Ship, its site and the entire premise as an architectural structure, environment and its program transpired to be the biggest aspiration of this journey. The documentation is an attempt to bring forth the design-based semblances working upon the curvatures of the ship and various parametric permutations applied in architecture all around the globe. This builds up an untold narrative that encapsulates the ship and the town of Beypore. The drawings produced, the places mapped, and the context studied all pursue a different purpose and follow various methods yet merge together in a network of connections. The Uru exhibition replicates the relationship between the Khalasis, their culture, the craft and its history while treating the ship, the site, and Beypore, each of it at different scales as different canvases.

Narrative: The hustle-bustle, the pollution and numerous problems fabricate the city in only one emotion of black and white and neutrality. The dichotomy of these emotions is seen as we get introduced to a village. Villages induce calmness and contentment, which a city life lacks, afflicting us more to that space. The village accommodates various structures, having a particular function, each provoking a distinct emotion. These emotions are implied through the colors stimulating them. All the houses in the village transmit positivity, confidence, and security, which is conveyed through the color blue. The orange library projects an idea of enthusiasm to read books and offers creativity to visualize it. The hospital, which requires tranquility and well-being, is manifested by the color green. The red color of the community hall depicts the excitement and energizes us to celebrate the activity held there. The excitement and happiness of the school and garden are portrayed through the color yellow. The presence of color is evident in everything we perceive and, to express the space we have represented through various colors associated with a specific emotion. This vivid graphic comprises forms of architectural drawings, namely plans, sections and isometrics, breaking the usual way of representing space in a fixed only monotonous way.

Thereafter each group was given an item from the garbage which was then to be translated into an infographic. We followed the journey of a simple matchbox from manufacturing to disposal. The infographic consists of the entire lifecycle of matchbox particularly- SHIP matches, right from manufacturing to disposal. The process starts with matchstick and matchbox manufacturing. Thereafter comes the stacking and packaging of matchbox. After packaging the matchboxes are ready for distribution at wholesalers and retailers. The graphic also speaks about the afterlife of the matchbox along with the entire history of SHIP safety matches. Analyzing the various steps that a simple matchbox goes through before ending up in our garbage made us realize the importance of every minute thing that we use and discard without a second thought. Narrative: The aim of the project is to provide a Villa for a family of four while allowing them to work from home by designing architecture that seamlessly blends with the rural fabric of Kerala, rather than fracturing it but adding to it. The project responds to the site by including local involvement in functions incorporated on the site, thus strengthening the bond formed by the new residents with the locals. The project is intended to assist the four new inhabitants in gradually acclimating to their new surroundings without upsetting the local population, history, custom, or climate. “Samantar” seamlessly merges with its surroundings as the structure itself merges into the site topography running parallel to the proximal circumstances. The hierarchy of spaces is choreographed such that the private, semi private and public spaces remain well distinct and none of them is disturbed by the other. The orientation of the functions are to maximize light and wind flow and minimize heat to cope up with the humidity on site for which courtyards are an ideal element to passively design zones for maximization of light yet cool spaces adopted traditionally in most Keralan houses also enhancing indoor outdoor relationship.
