Steel as a material is very important for the construction industry. The advent of steel beams, Sections enabled architects to widen their frame of imagination. The mechanical properties of steel; Simplicity in use and its speed of construction makes steel versatile as Structural material.
The intent of the project was to explore Steel as a construction material for the design of a school. To simplify the learning process only the Admin blocks, Dining block, 4 classrooms, and a toilet block was to be detailed. The admin-Dining has a common vault roof. This is structurally resolved by designing trusses perpendicular to the direction of the vault. These Vierendeel trusses enable a larger clear span. The columns are made up of ISWB 300 sections and are encased in concrete. The corridors and the classrooms have a system of bowstring trusses that support the arch-shaped roofs.
