Steel reinforcement gives a concrete structure the stability it needs. Steel and concrete act together to increase the structure's strength that withstands the induced forces.
The exercise conducted was to verify this theory. Here, two similar concrete slabs were made. Wire mesh, which acts as a reinforcement, is added in one of the concrete slabs, and the other one remains without it. These slabs are then dropped from a height of 5 feet where the reinforced slab remained intact, whereas the other one shattered into fragments. This activity proves that the steel provides the tensile strength needed for the concrete and secures the construction firmly.
