Sangath means “moving together through participation” . B.V. Doshi’s masterpiece in a way manifests his philosophies of rediscovering the Indian Traditional Architecture, creativity and evokes the local ethos in harmonizing the present Place , with People and with their Past elements.
The Series of Sunken Vaults amalgamating with terraced amphitheater and landscape gives rise to double-height spatial volumes and outdoor spaces for conferencing , informal meetings & experiencing pause points. This Set-up reflects the idea of Indian villages of having discussions, sharing and respecting the privacy of each other.
Sir B.V. Doshi interlocks multi-height spaces that flushes the interiors with maximum daylight through Skylights , cut-out in roof slab which helps to regulate the coolness inside with release of hot-air towards upper level through Stack Effect. Sangath’s Complex form-Vaults are locally constructed using hollow clay tiles as an infill material with ferro-concrete cavity roof, cast in-situ formwork.
The Exterior roof skin is cladded with white china mosaic tiles which were the waste material in the site, being used efficiently through hands of local workforce, achieving sustainable approach in materials. Grass Mounds & Mosaic Tiles reflects the harsh sunlight and insulates the heat away from the interiors.
