THE BLOODY BERRY
Through the berry grove, went the shepherd,
At the pasture to graze his herd.
A poisonous berry, eaten by his sheep,
To the apothecary, he took a sudden leap.
A wandering sheep seen by Jill,
On her way to get water from the hill.
To the pasture, she returned it,
While jack she saw across the street.
Jack and Jill went up the hill,
While the shepherd with his sheep away,
To fetch a pail of water.
Went to the shrine, in hopes to pray.
He saw marauder jack atop the hill,
And thought, jack was the one to steal.
They brawled, jack fell down and broke his crown,
And Jill came tumbling after.
The shepherd watched jack die,
With tears in his eye.
The only words he could hear Jill say,
“It was I, who put the sheep away.”
