Various physical and visual boundaries are perceived in our day-to-day life. These boundaries are mapped using the art of cartography. Identification of light and shadow during different times of the day, depth of a body or object in the space, movement of vehicles, activities of various people, difference in levels and textures were some of the aspects that were perceived and recognized during this exercise. These boundaries are both tangible and intangible and help understand the space and movement of the body in it. Referring to the works of Denis Wood, various symbologies were adopted as a way to portray these boundaries. In the first sketch, shadows from the Chaitya Bhoomi were created, with the effect of light and shadow during different times of the day. Stippling is used to show differences in texture, while the height of the umbrellas used by the vegetable vendors is also altered as it changes over time. The depth of a building was shown with the help of shading and hatching. Different line intensities were carefully used to depict the slope of the road.
Intangible aspects like variation of temperature and sound were also observed and mapped.
