Mt. Kailasha is designated as the abode of Lord Shiva in Hindu mythology, where it is described as heaven on Earth. It is a famous pilgrimage site with cultural importance.
This description from Shivapura describes Shiva bringing Sati after their marriage to show different sites and scenes of the Himalayas. Their journey starts from the foothill kingdom to the summit of the mountain peak. Reaching the summit, Sati suggests the Bairagi Shiva settle down and build an abode in Mt. Kailasha at the onset of the rainy season. It describes varied landscapes of various peaks of the Himalayas with the transformation in the landscape with different climatic conditions at different altitudes. The description highlights the diversity of flora and fauna found across the Himalayan region with other famous phenomena such as golden mountains at sunrise. The sceneries closely coincide with the existing landscape quality and altitude wise vegetational zones of the area.
